OVER THE RHINE, OH (FOX19) - The Greater Cincinnati Coalition for the Homeless is holding a protest Friday after it was announced that a police officer will not face charges for running over a homeless woman.
Officer Marty Polk ran over Joann Burton in Washington Park in July as she was laying under some blankets. Hamilton County Prosecutor Joe Deters announced Thursday that felony charges will not be filed against Officer Polk.
The protest is Friday at 2 p.m. at the corner of 14th and Race Streets.
"The decision to not press charges in the death of Joann Burton is yet another attack on people who are financially poor and/or homeless," said Josh Spring, executive director of the coalition for the homeless.
An Ohio State Highway Patrol report found that Polk was not negligent and was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
