Closson's closing doors after 144 years in business

OAKLEY, OH (FOX19) - After 144 years of business in Cincinnati, Clossons has closed its doors. Employees were told Friday morning about the sudden closing.

Clossons relocated to its current location on Madison Road in Oakley in 2008 after closing the Downtown store in 2003.

Chairman Stuart Sutphi III released the following statement;  "Closing Closson's was a very difficult decision, both professionally and personally, for our dedicated employees and our many loyal customers.

"Like so many luxury goods retailers, Closson's sales have suffered during the worst economic downturn in our lifetimes.  After carefully considering all of our options, we've determined it is simply not financially viable to remain open.

"I know I speak on behalf of all of us to say we are proud and honored to have been a part of the Closson's legacy and the fabric of the Cincinnati community for many wonderful years.

"Closson's will close in an orderly manner and will work with current clients individually to complete their orders.

"We will provide out-placement counseling services to our employees."

Customers with questions about the status of their orders may contact 513-762-5500 or

Closson's will hold a public liquidation sale for its remaining inventory in mid- September.  All sales will be final and only cash or credit will be accepted. Exact dates and times of the sale will be posted on
