WEST HARRISON, IN (FOX19) - The Dearborn County Sheriff's Department says a driver has come forward following a hit and run crash that killed a 3-year-old boy.

Police had been looking for a blue pick-up truck that hit and killed Jack Carpenter, 3, Tuesday afternoon on North Dearborn Road.

Chief Deputy Mike Kreinhop says a woman called police around 3 a.m. Wednesday morning after seeing media reports on the accident. She said she was in the area at the time and drives a blue pick up truck and told police she may be involved.

Police questioned the woman and realized she was the one involved in the accident. She told police that she didn't realize she had hit the boy.

The woman has been released from custody and no charges have been filed at this time. Kreinhop says a decision on charges won't be made until the investigation is complete.

Police aren't releasing the woman's name.
