ERLANGER, KY (FOX19) -- The fourth annual One Book One Community reading program kicks off their festivities with a musical performance on Wednesday.
The Bacchanal Steel Drum Band performed at the Kenton County Public Library's Erlanger Branch for the kick-off. Visitors enjoyed Hors d'oeuvres and other surprises.
Northern Kentucky One Book One Community is a reading program that gets people reading and talking about the same book. This year's book selection is, "A Pearl in the Storm", by Tori Murden McClure fro Louisville.
Libraries in Boone, Campbell, Grant and Kenton Counties encourage people to get the book, read it, and attend the supplemental programs, in September, books discussions in October, and meet the author in November.
The book is a true story chronicles of McClure's effort to be the first woman to row solo across the Atlantic. she was also the first woman and first American to travel over land to the geographic South Pole.
This is McClure's first book.

View a fantastic boat display from the Sea Scouts and see a 54' Dragon Boat. Enjoy a captivating performance by Maidens IV, known for their intricate harmonies, choreography and costumes. Sample appetizers and desserts while viewing a pictorial display of the author's life and accomplishments. Enter to win a copy of the book or a canoe trip for two!
Renovation, Rowing & Refreshments
Saturday, September 11 at 10 a.m.
Scheben Branch, Boone County Public Library
See the renovations of the Scheben Branch and pick up a copy of A Pearl in the Storm. Enjoy treats then at 11 a.m. the Cincinnati Rowing Club will demonstrate how to row a 2,800 lb. vessel and guests can try for themselves.
