LAWRENCEBURG, IN (FOX19) - Charges have been filed against a woman involved in a hit and run accident that killed a 3-year-old boy.
Christy Shackelford-Grammer, 32, is charged with failure to stop after an accident resulting in death, a class C felony. If convicted, she faces two to eight years in prison.
Jack Carpenter, 3, was hit and killed by a pick-up truck Tuesday afternoon on North Dearborn Road. His parent witnessed the accident and begged the person responsible to come forward.
Shackelford-Grammer turned herself in to police early Wednesday morning after seeing news reports on the accident and knowing she drove blue pick-up truck and was in the area at the time of the accident. She told investigators she knew she hit something, but she thought it was just a deer, so she kept going. She says she had her four children in her pick up truck with her.
Shackelford-Grammer is behind bars at the Dearborn County Jail.
Visitation for Jack Carpenter is Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Bright Christian Church. His funeral is Saturday morning at Brater Funeral Home in Harrison.
