The Hamilton Big Blue wore down the Taft Senators as they pulled away for a 30-14 victory on Friday night at Virgil M. Schwarm Stadium.
Hamilton (2-1) did on the ground, where they held a 336 yards to an 11-yard advantage over Taft (1-2).
Senior Devin Jarrett led all rushers as he picked up 158 yards and a touchdown on 17 carries. Junior Roblow Givens added 141 more and a score on 14 totes. Quarterback Brian Cleckley only completed one pass on the night, but it went for a 34-yard touchdown to junior wide receiver Deprece Daniels.
The Senators stuck first when Anthony Taper hit Dewayn Stanford for a 59-yard touchdown pass which was followed by Adolphus Washington's catch on the ensuing two-point conversion to give Taft an 8-0 edge.
Givens' score, coupled with two Jordan Weislogel field goals, would give the Big Blue a 12-8 lead at the half. The defense would take over and dominate the second half with Taft's only other score of the game coming on an 89-yard kickoff return by Edmond Hurt after the game was out of reach.
Hamilton will open GMC play next week as Oak Hills pays a visit to the school. Taft returns home to Stargell Stadium for a meeting with Withrow as CMAC play begins as well.
