The Dixie Heights Colonels turned in their best effort of the season as they handled the Conner Cougars in a 41-26 home victory.
Dixie Heights (2-2) was led by junior quarterback Zeke Pike, who rushed for 147 yards and three scores on 19 carries while adding another 145 yards and two touchdowns on 12-of-17 passing. Classmate Seth Bruns added 148 yards and a score on 18 carries as Dixie finished with 462 total yards of offense, including 308 yards rushing. Wide receiver Goose Cohorn contributed with four receptions for 60 yards and a score.
The win marked the 100th career win for the Colonels' head coach, Tom Spritzky, who is in 16th year atop Dixie Heights' program.
Conner (3-1) suffered their first loss of the season. Quarterback Cy Smith continued his torrid start though, completing 26-of-30 passes for 377 yards and four touchdowns. Camron Fogle was his top target on the night, catching 11 balls for 157 yards in the Cougars' defeat.
Dixie Heights faces a tough test next week as they travel to Ryle. Conner celebrates its Homecoming by welcoming Holy Cross.
