SEYMOUR, IN (FOX 19) – The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) is advising motorists to be aware of upcoming lane restrictions on bridges connecting Indiana and Kentucky. Each year INDOT joins forces with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet to review the structures. These inspections are conducted to develop long-range strategies for maintenance of the bridges. Routine and in-depth inspections into the structural integrity of the bridges are conducted separately on a bi-annual basis. Specially trained engineers and consultants are utilized for these inspections.
The inspection schedule for bridges in Southeast Indiana is as follows:
Wednesday, September 22, 10:00 a.m. -- US 421 Milton/Madison - Jefferson County
Thursday, September 23, 10:00 a.m. -- I-275 Carroll Cropper - Dearborn County
One lane will be closed to set up equipment and allow inspections to take place, with at least one lane remaining open to motorists. Restrictions may begin as early as 8:00 a.m. and can last until dusk. Inspections will not take place during inclement weather and the schedule will be pushed back accordingly.
