OVER-THE-RHINE, OH (FOX19) - A man was shot and killed in Over-The-Rhine Friday night. Police say the incident happened around 7pm. All we know so far, is that a man, who may not even be *from that neighborhood, was on-foot, when he was shot and killed on Back Street.
It happened near the Grant Playground on McMicken. Two different family members confirmed to FOX19 at the scene, the victim's name is Vincent Bankhead. Police have also confirmed the 25-year-old's identity.
Police taped off the area all the way around the playground to keep people away. And one-by-one, as family members got word, police had to fight to keep them away from Bankhead's body, which was laying covered-up with a sheet at the corner of Back and Walnut streets.
As you may recall only two nights ago, FOX19 did a story with the Cincinnati Police Department and C.I.R.V., or the Cincinnati's Initiative to Reduce Violence. This marks now four homicides in the City of Cincinnati for September so far. 44 on the year.
"The community's gotta stop this," said Arthur Phelps with C.I.R.V. "Police can't stop it, we can't stop it, the community, if you live in this community, you gotta step up in your community. 'Do you know this victim?', we asked. "No I don't," Phelps said. "I just know it's another black man dead."
An Aunt of Bankhead's said she thought her nephew was just there visiting a friend. So far, police have no eyewitnesses to the killing and that no one else was injured.
They're asking anyone who *saw or heard anything to call Crimestoppers at 513-352-3040.
There was a beautiful baby girl being held by a young man at the scene, who looked right at reporter Stefano and said with tears in his eyes, "This was Vincent's little girl. That was her daddy that got shot here."
