It was supposed to be a gun-slinging offensive shootout, but it turned into a titanic defensive struggle as Taft (2-2, 1-0) got the best of Withrow (0-4, 0-1) to open CMAC play.

The Division IV Senators made quite a statement for their post season chances with a win over the Division I Tigers.

It was Aiken transfers Anthony Taper and Marcus Knox hooking up on two first-quarter touchdown passes for Taft. That would be all the scoring until Withrow quarterback Blake Moore hit Dionte Riley with a 6-yard scoring pass late in the fourth quarter. Moore came into the game averaging 300 yards passing per contest. Taft held him to half of that thanks to the pressure of defensive end Adolphus Washington.

Taft will stay at Stragel Stadium next week as they will be the visiting team in a matchup against an ever-improving Aiken (1-3, 1-0) squad. Withrow looks to get into the victory column at home against Hughes Center (0-4, 0-1).
