Cincinnati, Norwood among best communities for young people

NORWOOD, OH (FOX19) - America's Promise Alliance has released its list of the 100 Best Communities for Young People, and this year's list includes Cincinnati and Norwood.

These communities were named among the nation's 100 Best for its innovative efforts to ensure young people in the Cincinnati area have all the resources they need to succeed, known as the Alliance's "Five Promises" – caring adults; safe places; a healthy start; an effective education; and opportunities to help others.

Both Cincinnati and Norwood have been selected for the first time as 100 Best Communities for Young People.

The 100 Best competition is part of the Alliance's Grad Nation campaign, a 10-year initiative to mobilize all Americans to end the dropout crisis. This year's competition looked closely at what communities are doing to decrease dropout rates and deliver the Five Promises to local youth. More than 350 communities in all 50 states and Washington, DC were nominated for the 100 Best competition. The winners, 30 of which were first-time recipients of the honor, hail from 37 states. They were chosen by a distinguished panel of judges that included some of the nation's most well-known civic, business and nonprofit leaders.
