TOLEDO, OH (WTOL) - Toledo's first mountain bike trail officially opens Saturday at Jermain Park on Upton between Monroe and Ottawa Drive.
Jay Catlow, one of more than 30 volunteer trail builders, says the 3.28 mile course is full of twists, turns and even a few jumps.
"It's a good challenge here. It's a nice trail for everybody and the best thing about it is it's close," said Catlow.
Volunteers spent more than 500 hours this summer designing and building the new trail. Catlow says the volunteers started work by bringing in chainsaws, loppers and a lot of other tools to whack the trail into shape.
Toledo Parks and Forestry Manager Tim Burns says the trail is perfect for bikers of all ages.
"The track is designed as such that if you want to ride a more aggressive portion of the track, you can do that, but if you're not up to that level, you can ride around those areas, avoid those areas, and ride at your own pace," said Burns.
Saturday's grand opening, which takes place from noon to 3 p.m., coincides with the International Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day.
