The Conner Cougars rallied after blowing a 20-point, first-half lead to beat Boone County on the road, 27-21.

CConner Cy SmithConner (4-3) got the go-ahead score on an 11-yard touchdown by Cy Smith, his third rushing score of the night, with 2:04 left in the game. Smith had a big night, finishing with 228 yards and a touchdown on 21-of-28 passing and tallying another 54 yards on the ground.

The Cougars took advantage of three early turnovers by Boone County (2-4) to race out to an early lead, but the Rebels did not go away.

Drew Stuck punched one in the final minute of the first half to put Boone County on the board.

Quarterback Bryson Thompson ran for a 36-yard touchdown in the third quarter to cut the Cougars' lead to seven before senior running back Jordan Oppenheimer gave the Rebels the lead with a 4-yard TD run early in the fourth quarter. Oppenheimer put up big numbers in the loss as he carried the ball 25 times for 164 yards.

The game could prove to have huge playoff implications in a balanced 6A district this season.

Conner will look to make it two in a row as they stay on the road with a trip to Campbell County. Boone County looks to bounce back as they head to Cooper.
