Habitat for Humanity starting new house in Colerain Township

CINCINNATI (FOX19) - Cincinnati Habitat for Humanity will begin construction on a home in Colerain Township.

The construction kick-off ceremony will begin at 8 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 9, at 2494 Wilson Avenue.

"The merger with Millcreek Valley enables us to pool our resources and do so much more for Cincinnati and its surrounding communities. Colerain Township, in particular, has been hit hard by the foreclosure crisis, and many neighborhoods are suffering. Our goal is to make a positive difference and revitalize the community," said Marissa Woodly, Development Director, Cincinnati Habitat. "We are honored to help another family achieve their dream of home ownership, and we are excited to be a part of the renewal efforts in this community."

This is the fourth of seven houses that will be build on Wilson Avenue. This house will be home to Tonya Combs and her three children, Kristina, 8, Makhaya, 3, and Goodness, 11. Tonya currently works for Anthem Blue Cross and they currently live in a small two bed room apartment, where the youngest sleeps in the living room.

"It is such a blessing we were picked for a Habitat home," said Combs.  "I want my kids to be proud of me and never have to worry. We are a loving family and cherish what we have.  My kids are active in sports and it is really hard as a single mom to keep up.  We have been through a lot, and this is the new start we need."
