Woman accused of stealing over $7k from youth league

SPRINGDALE, OH (FOX19) - A Springdale woman is facing charges after police say she stole nearly $7,700 from the Springdale Youth Boosters.

Dana Kennedy, 40, is charged with misdemeanor theft. She entered a written plea of not guilty in court on Tuesday morning.

According to court documents, Kennedy stole the money from January of 2008 through December of 2009. Investigators say funds deposited into the boosters bank account was less than funds received from the 2008 and 2009 sports sign-ups and various fundraisers through the year.

During this time, Kennedy was president of the boosters and had access to the bank accounts. Court records say she prepared most of the deposits and there were hand-written notes indicating some of the events and monies that were taken in.

Current Springdale Youth Boosters president Megan Wisecup says the organization is "shocked" by the allegations. She says the boosters are changing their system of "checks and balances."

Wisecup said the boosters noticed the discrepancies in March of 2010 and started the investigation in May.
