Ohio police turn down volume on college parties

ATHENS, Ohio (AP) - Police in southern Ohio are trying to turn down the volume on college parties by writing more citations.

The Columbus Dispatch reports authorities in Athens have issued 72 noise citations during the first six weeks of classes at Ohio University.

That's more than double the number of noise tickets there in all of 2009.

The attempt to hush college partiers comes after the Athens police changed their noise citation policy in late August.

Now, police officers can break up parties and write citations without receiving a complaint first.
