Police issue warrant for scam artist

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) – Cincinnati Police Detectives want to residents to be on the lookout for a man scamming individuals across the tri-state. Using the phone book to reach out to victims, police say Larry Haynes is taking money for appliance repairs and never doing any work

"She gave him a check and the next day he (Haynes) cashed the check and he went out and has never been seen since," said Detective Charles Zopfi.

Over the past month, two victims in Hyde Park have fallen to his tricks.  Although this scam is new to Hyde Park, Haynes is known throughout the police community.

"During the course of the investigation, I've talked to at least seven other police departments after I've identified this gentleman, and come to find out this is the common thing he does," said Zopfi.

Larry Haynes isn't the only name the con artist uses, he has two other aliases.

Garry Haynes and Gary Meyers. Using the phone book he preys on would be clients.

"The fake ones that we've found so far are appliance service and appliance service today," said Zopfi. "They are the first two listings in the phone book."

Detectives from Maytag and Whirlpool have also taken complaints about the man from Indiana and Kentucky.
