With their playoff hopes hanging in the balance the Badin Rams came up with a huge 38-31 overtime win Friday night versus the Fenwick Falcons.
Rams' junior Max Adams pulled in a 20-yard Jeff Smith pass for a touchdown in overtime and the defense held the Falcons out of the end zone to secure the victory.
Badin (5-4) entered the week ninth in the Harbin Rankings in Division V, Region 20 and could not afford a loss. Fenwick (7-2, 1-1) was ranked fourth in Division IV, Region 16. A win over a bigger, ranked school will give a huge boost to the Rams' resume.
The two teams combined for 741 yards and 69 points in what proved to be an offensive explosion.
Smith had a huge night under center for the Rams. He finished with 134 yards and two touchdowns on 11-of-16 passing while adding 173 yards and two more scores on 27 carries.
His counterpart, Fenwick quarterback Austin Gearing, was nearly as impressive. The junior threw for 189 yards a touchdown and another 72 yards and a score on the ground.
Badin wraps up the regular season with a matchup with McNicholas. Fenwick heads to Carroll.
