FAIRFIELD, OH (FOX19) - Elementary school students on bus 25 in the Fairfield School District are singing their way to school.
"Kids learn more when you sing songs and make it fun," said Fairfield bus driver, Susan Flick.
That's why Flick, bus driver/ amateur songwriter, has taken it upon herself to teach her students songs about health and safety on the school bus.
"And I think the reason why they love it is because everybody sings, it doesn't matter if you're in the four grade or the first grade, we're together on this," Flick said.
Today's song is about good nutrition.
"It was about to eat your vegetables, so you get healthy and you could have strong bones and teeth and everything," said Omar Shteiwi, a first grader in the district.
The goal is to make students feel a sense of friendship and safety on the bus, so the learning doesn't just start in the classroom but rather, on the way to school.
"And it's great because when we go to school in the morning, we're all in one mind and one accord, when we got to school in the morning, they know they're loved," Flick said.
Mrs. Flick has been driving the same route for eight years and has been a bus driver in the district for 16 years, she takes pride in the fact that her students aren't just singing the tunes,
they're shown through their action in everyday life.
"Being respect, responsible and safe," Shteiwi said.
"They get the responsibility means to be kind to one another, they get that it means putting other first," Flick said.
Last year Flick taught student a rap song about being respectful to others.
