HAMILTON COUNTY, OH (FOX19) - The Hamilton County Park District has issued a Stage One Forest Fire Alert for parks in the county.
The alert is in an effort to protect natural resources and raise awareness among park visitors regarding drought conditions. Hamilton County is currently designated as a "D2 Severe Drought" by the US Department of Agriculture.
The Park District Rangers are urging park visitors to use extra caution when building campfires within fire rings at the Winton Woods, Miami Whitewater Forest and Steamboat Bend Campgrounds, as well as cooking fires in grills at picnic areas.
The extremely dry conditions increase the risk of accidental fires that could severely damage natural habitats, threaten wildlife and endanger lives.
