Principal, teacher suspended without pay for students' trip to Board of Elections

CINCINNATI (FOX19) - Hughes High School Principal Virginia Rhodes is under suspension  without pay after a field trip by students to the Hamilton County Board of Elections on October 13, 2010.

A disciplinary conference for Rhodes was held on October 29, 2010 to address possible violations of two district policies.

Based on the district's investigation and information presented at the disciplinary conference, the following violations of policy were substantiated:

  • Failure to follow the district's procedure when authorizing transportation.
  • Failure to follow the district's procedure for background checks of chaperones and drivers.
  • Allowing students to be transported in donated vans and without proper supervision.

District officials also suspended Hughes High School teacher Dennis McFadden for one day without pay, effective Friday, November 5, 2010.

A disciplinary conference was held for McFadden on November 3, 2010. Based on the district's investigation and information presented at the conference, the following violation of policy was substantiated:

  • Allowing students to be transported in donated vans and without proper supervision.
