The Covington Catholic Colonels got their post-season off to a in a dominating 43-19 effort over Ashland Blazer on Saturday afternoon in Park Hills.

Sophomore quarterback Blake Bir continued his breakout season by tossing five touchdown passes to help CovCath (6-5) advance. Three of those scoring strikes came in the first quarter and the Colonels' defense came up with a safety as CovCath raced out to a 23-0 first-quarter lead. Bir finished the night by passing for 214 yards on 10-of-24 passing.

The Colonels defense came up with six, including 2.5 quarterback takedowns by Joe Sizemore.

Next up for CovCath is a rematch at Johnson Central, the team that knocked them out off the playoffs a year ago.
