OXFORD, OH (FOX19) - Police are investigating a fatal crash in Oxford involving a train and a dump truck.

It happened around 3:30 p.m. Sunday on Taylor Road.

Police say Peter Klaus, 83, was crossing the tracks when a train struck the passenger side of his truck.

Klaus was flown to the hospital, where he died.

Witnessed told police the dump truck driver seemed to be unaware of the oncoming train. The engineer sounded his horn and did emergency stop procedures, but was unable to stop before hitting the truck.

Oxford Township trustees have expressed concern of this intersection and have been working for over a year to get a drop gate and lights. The installation process has started, but is not expected to be complete until next year.

The accident remains under investigation by Oxford Township Police and CSX.
