COVINGTON, KY (FOX19) - There's a meeting Monday about the future of Covington's Goebel Park.
The meeting will focus on how the Brent Spence Bridge replacement will affect the park, which sits alongside northbound I-71/75.
Renderings presented by city staff show the current plans for the new highway would take out the basketball courts at Goebel Park, some walking paths and the right-of-way buffer between the park and the interstate.
The park's trademark bell tower and picnic grounds would not be impacted.
While construction on the new bridge won't likely happen until at least 2015, the Transportation Cabinet wants mitigation plans by the end of the year.
This is the first of two public meetings. Monday's meeting runs from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Radisson Hotel at the corner of 5th and Philadelphia.
