SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP, OH (FOX19) - A Springfield Township man has been indicted for the murder of his 15-month-old daughter.

A Hamilton County grand jury indicted Thomas Huge, 45, on one count of aggravated murder, two counts of murder, one count of felonious assault and two counts of child endangering.

Huge called paramedics on Sept. 7 to report that his daughter, Kayli Bates, was not breathing. Kayli was taken to Cincinnati Children's Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

The Hamilton County Coroner's Office ruled her cause of death to be asphyxia, and noted that there was evidence of abuse prior to her death.

"He kept to himself. I'd see him every now and then carrying the kids in the house but he kept to himself. When I saw police over there in September I thought he was working with the police," said one woman who refused to be identified.

According to prosecutors, Kayli's mother is incarcerated in Maryville, Ohio. Her 2-year-old sister was removed from the home following Kayli's death.

"These cases are heartbreaking," said Hamilton County Prosecutor Joe Deters. "For an innocent child to suffer and die like this is unthinkable."

Huge faces the death penalty if he is found guilty of purposefully killing the baby.
