Dad, coach charged in Ohio post-game melee

DAYTON, Ohio (AP) - An Ohio third-grade football coach and a player's father have been charged with assault for a parking-lot melee after a game.

An attorney says a man suffered a broken pelvis and his wife a broken nose. The Montgomery County prosecutor's office says Bruce Baird was charged Monday with felonious assault and Jeff Starnes with misdemeanor assault.

Starnes is an assistant coach for the Northmont Wee Bolts in the Dayton area of southwest Ohio.

The men are accused of assaulting Stephen and Shana Jones of Vandalia after the Wee Bolts and Vandalia Wee Aviators played to a 6-6 tie Oct. 9.

The Dayton Daily News reports Baird has said Shana Jones harassed the daughter of a coach and that she then jumped on Starnes' back. The Joneses do not have a listed phone number in Vandalia.
