Grippo's plant temporarily closed after late night fire

COLERAIN TOWNSHIP, OH (FOX19) -  The Grippo's plant in Colerain Township will be close Wednesday after a late night fire.

The fire started around 9:30 p.m. in the 6700 block of Colerain Avenue. Company officials are were at the scene Wednesday morning to survey some of the damage, but they don't believe it is as bad as they originally thought.

Firefighters say a grease fire in a main fryer spread to the roof, which kicked on the sprinklers and caused extensive water damage.

"When we showed up we had a pretty good amount of fire coming from the roof and the whole building was charged with smoke," said Cpt. Steve Conn with the Colerain Fire Department.

Crews were able to get the fire knocked down in about a half hour.

Most of the potato chips are stored off the floor, so all the chips are fine, but it will be a few days before repairs are finished. The fire also did not damage the delivery trucks parked nearby.

No injuries were reported.
