SHARONVILLE, OH (FOX19) – The Sharonville Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce its Business Connection Lunch which will be held on Thursday, November 18, 2010 from 11:30 a.m. – 1:15 p.m. with Tony Alessandro, a 19 year old sailor who witnessed history in September 1945, as our featured speaker. The lunch will take place at the Elements Conference and Event Centre, located at 11974 Lebanon Road.
"I was a witness to one of the greatest moments in our country's history as I watched the signing of surrender papers by the Japanese on the deck of the USS Missouri in Tokyo Bay," said Tony Alessandro, a 19 year old sailor in September 1945. "Only two thoughts swirled in my mind at that moment – the killing is over and we are going home."
Tony said, "The American brass wanted to find a way to involve the British in this ceremony so they asked them to bring a table from their battleship, HMS King George. The table was too small so we brought up an old table from our mess hall to take its place. I don't think that ever got in the history books."
It is this sacrifice made by our veterans over the years along with the men and women of today's military units around the world that help protect our freedom. Let's take a moment to honor and thank these special men and women.
