Weekend Watch: NKY 2A

We look ahead to this week's Class 2A playoff action of local interest in Kentucky.

Friday, Nov. 12 at 7:30 p.m.

Christian Academy (7-4) at Newport Central Catholic (9-2)
NewCath head coach Eddie Eviston continued to build on what has been a terrific debut season at his alma mater by picking up his first playoff win last week in a 70-20 thrashing of Owen County. Now the 'Breds welcome Christian Academy of Louisville in Friday night action. CAL does most of their damage on the ground, led by dual-threat quarterback Jacob Richter who has passed for 1,112 yards and rushed for another 948. The team beat Newport a week ago in what turned about to be a tight game. Look for NCC to continue to lean on its running game, led by running back Chris Kelly. The senior ran for 81 yards and a score in last week's playoff win in limited action.

Holy Cross (6-5) at DeSales (7-4)
The Indians head south for a chance to avenge last year's playoff loss to DeSales. Holy Cross must find an answer defensively for running back Jerry Lucas. Holy Cross has the weapons to pull off the upset. Quarterback Jerry Arlinghaus and his top target, wide receiver Josh Jasper, need to find some success against a DeSales' defense that yields just 140 yards per game through the air. If the Indians are going to pull off the upset they need to win the battle of turnovers. Jasper, Justin Kohake and Eric Walker have all come up with multiple interceptions this season for Holy Cross.
