Flags in Kentucky ordered at half- staff to honor soldier

KENTUCKY (FOX19) -- Governor Steve Beshear has ordered that flags be at half- staff on Tuesday to honor a soldier that was killed in Afghanistan while supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.

According to the Department of Defense, 20-year-old Cpl. Jacob R. Carver from Freeman, MO died on November 13 in Kandahar providence Afghanistan. An insurgent suicide bomber detonated a vest bomb and struck his unit.

Carver was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division( Air Assault) in Fort Campbell, KY.

Funeral services will be held on November 23 at 10am Central time at Orient Cemetery in Harrisonville, MO.

Governor Beshear had directed that flags at all state office buildings be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset that day. He also encourages individuals, businesses, organizations, and government agencies to join in this tribute.
