County eyes military corridor near Camp Atterbury

EDINBURGH, Ind. (AP) - An Indiana county wants to capitalize on the presence of Camp Atterbury by recruiting defense-oriented businesses to locate nearby.

Johnson County Development Corp. president Cheryl Morphew is designing marketing materials and taking other steps in hopes of creating a corridor for military businesses near the 33,000-acre military base about 25 miles south of Indianapolis.

Morphew tells the Daily Journal in Franklin that the area needs to seize growth opportunities created by a planned $105 million expansion at the military installation.

Morphew is creating marketing materials, meeting with neighboring counties and looking into ways to pay for infrastructure to get the idea rolling.
