Just another day as Tri-State enjoys first snow of the season

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -- As the first sight of snow blankets the Tri-State, drivers are not letting it impact their holiday shopping or weekend plans.

"Just another day, we're just out in it, we're still coming out to do all the stuff down here," says Andrea Cranfill of Amelia.

The city of Cincinnati Public Works is keeping busy with 57 trucks on the roads, icing and preparing for the late night hours.

"We're trying to minimize all the re-freeze later on tonight, roads are going to get slick when the roads start freezing so we've got a good layer of salt down but we're going to keep working through the night to make sure we keep it under control," says Larry Whitaker, Assistant to the Director of Public Works.

Whitaker says crews are working 12 hour shifts and had plenty of advance notice to stay ahead of the precipitation.

AAA roadside assistance says it received more than 300 calls Saturday afternoon, a normal number for the weekend. The Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky Airport says the runways remain clear and the only minor delays are due to minimal de-icing for the planes.

At fountain square skaters say the early accumulation is welcomed and helps set the mood for the holiday.

"With the snow and the ice skating and the Christmas music down here it's absolutely perfect," says Kristen Wright of Hebron, Kentucky.
