Officer recovering after being assaulted by suspect

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - A St. Bernard police officer is recovering after he was assaulted by a suspect.

Officer Bill Ungruhe stopped Tyler Watkins, 20, for jaywalking Sunday night on Vine Street.

Ungruhe was searching Watkins when Watkins spun around and hit him in the cheek, breaking his glasses. Ungruhe suffered a temporary loss of sight and had to get stitches.

Watkins tried to run off, but police were able to follow his footprints in the snow and make an arrest.

Watkins is facing several charges, including assault and resisting arrest. He is also facing drug charges after police found him to be in possession of prescription pills.
