MAINEVILLE, OH (FOX19) - A day of fun in the snow turned into a rescue mission for two Maineville families.

"You couldn't really move your legs or anything, it was so hard to move," said Reed Norman.

Reed tells his frightening story of getting stuck in the muck. He and a friend went sledding Sunday afternoon, when the ground underneath them caved in like quick sand. Turns out the boys were on a wet clay-mud like substance that was part of a construction site.

"It was like up to here on me, on the mud," said Reed. "I was sitting in freezing cold mud."

Reed's friend was able to get out of the muck and run to get help. Reed's mother, Stephanie, tried to get her son out, but she quickly sank too. That's when Reed's dad sprung into action.

Robert Norman said he was in just his jacket and boxers. He got to the muck pit and broke a branch off a tree, and reached out to save his son who had been in the muck for 20 minutes, he then saved his wife..

"Luckily we had someone like him home or else we wouldn't have gotten out," said Reed.

"That was a pretty scary moment, there is no doubt about it. When you see him this high in mud with his arms flapping like this," said Robert.

The family said there were no signs around the construction site and hopes their story reminds crews working to put up signs or rope off any sections that could be dangerous.
