RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) – The holidays are about helping others, and a young man named Nile Price wants you to help him collect toys for children in the hospital. He spent two years at VCU Medical Center and wants to give back, because of everyone who helped him.

A clinic visit or hospital stay for children with cancer and sickle cell anemia is long, boring and isolated despite everything nurses do to cheer up young patients. So Nile Price is collecting toys, games, books, coloring books, music, puzzles, small blankets, and cuddle items to help hospitalized kids during the holidays.

During his transplant more than a year ago caring people decorated his room with his favorites, in football and politics -- something he'll never forget.

"That really made an impression on him. He said that he did not want to receive others kindness and not give back the same kindness that was given to him," said Nile's mother Deborah Price. "He was in a lot of mental slumps, just really depressed, feeling really bad and these people, they helped to make him smile and forget, hey I'm in the hospital."

Nile and his schoolmates have setup collection boxes at Douglas Freeman High School. If you want to donate small gifts for children getting treatment at VCU's Massey Cancer Center, please drop off your donations at Freeman High School by Monday, December 13th. Nile is filling 100 back packs, and will deliver them to the hospital next Thursday.
