Kentucky flags at half-staff for Thursday to honor fallen soldier

FRANKFORT, KY (FOX19) - Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear has ordered that all state flags be lowered to half-staff to honor a soldier who died in Afghanistan.

On November 29, 36-year-old Sgt. 1st Class Barry E. Jarvis of Tell City, Ind. was killed in Nangarhar province, Afghanistan while supporting Operation Enduring Freedom. His unit was attacked by insurgents with small arms fire.

Sgt. Jarvis was assigned to the 1st Squadron, 61st Calvary Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), in Fort Campbell, Ky.

Funeral services for Sgt. Barry Jarvis will be held on Thursday, Dec. 9 at 11:00 a.m. at Deer Creek Baptist Church in Tell City, Ind.

Gov. Beshear has ordered that flags at all state offices to be lowered at half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Thursday.
