Xavier Holds Off Butler to Extend Cintas Streak

CINCINNATI (AP) - Mark Lyons made two free throws with 3.4

seconds left, and Xavier held on to beat Butler 51-49 Thursday

night and extend the nation's second-longest home-court streak to

28 games, tying the school record.

The Musketeers (6-2) haven't lost at the Cintas Center since

Butler (4-4) pulled off an upset two years ago. The Bulldogs had a

chance to end the streak in the final minute.

Ronald Nored missed a pair of free throws with 32.2 seconds to

go, then fouled Lyons on an inbound play. Butler's Shelvin Mack

missed a 3 at the buzzer.

Kenny Frease led Xavier with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Matt

Howard had 17 for Butler. The Bulldogs went 13:15 without a field

goal in the first half, but never trailed by more than 10.
