UC's Commencement ceremony recognizes summer and fall graduates

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - The University of Cincinnati will hold Commencement for its summer and fall graduates at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, December 11, in Fifth Third Arena at Shoemaker Center.

Doors to Fifth Third Arena open at 9:00 a.m. The ceremony celebrates the achievements of master's, baccalaureate and associate degree graduates.

Bob McDonald, Chairman of the Board, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Procter & Gamble Company, will address the graduates with the theme, "Making A Difference." McDonald will be awarded an Honorary Doctor of Commercial Science at the ceremony.

UC's Office of Institutional Research reports that over summer and fall, 2,409 UC students applied for graduation. That's up just over 200 from the same period last year. Their total degrees include:

  • 312 associate degrees
  • 1,082 baccalaureate degrees
  • 899 master's degrees
  • 163 doctoral or professional degrees

Summer and fall doctoral graduates will be invited to the Doctoral Hooding and Master's Recognition Ceremony scheduled for June 10, 2011.

The University will also present honorary doctorates to Dr. Anant Ram Bhati, endoscopic gynecological surgeon and director of the Division of Gynecology at Good Samaritan Hospital in Cincinnati and David L. Joyce, president and CEO of GE Aviation.

Barbara Weeks Kellar will also be presented with the Award For Excellence.

Three educators from around the Tristate will be honored with the Cincinnati USA Outstanding Educator Award. Sandy Campbell, Doug Miller and Ted Shaw are the three recipients that will be presented with a $1,000 UC scholarship to be awarded to a high school senior who plans to attend UC in the 2011-2012 academic year.

After the ceremony, the UC Alumni Association will host a reception at the Russell C. Myers Alumni Center for graduates and guests.
