Visit with a special Santa for children with disabilities

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - Cincinnati Children's Family Resource Center is hosting the first annual "Sensitive Santa" special holiday event, complete with a Winter Wonderland set up, Santa Claus and entertainment for families and children.

The event is taking place at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center from 12:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 11.

Families can get a free photo of your child with Santa Claus. Parents can bring their own camera as well. There will be entertainment, activities and refreshments.

This event is for children who have physical or cognitive disabilities and who are not in-patients at the hospital. Examples of children who may find this heart-warming experience unique include:

  • The child with cerebral palsy who can't sit on Santa's lap because of physical limitations.
  • The child with autism who gets impatient standing in lines.
  • The child with Down Syndrome who may be frightened at the site of Santa and may need particularly more attention and time to warm up to him.

Each year many Tri-state families don't take their children to see Santa Claus because they are afraid that Santa won't be patient enough with their special needs child or that the child might be afraid of Santa. Some children may need extra help and time to make their visit a happy and memorable one.

For many Tri-state parents, this is the first time that their special needs child has an opportunity to visit with Santa.
