Freezing causing sporadic problems, temps falling

CINCINNATI (FOX19) - As rain turned to snow overnight and temperatures continued to drop, the weather caused a few problems early Sunday morning.

There were scattered reports of cars spinning and sliding.  The most serious were three on the Reagan Cross County Highway in Colerain Township and North College Hill, an elevated stretch of roadway.  On the westbound side near Colerain Avenue, a GMC Yukon slid off the highway and into a ditch.  The only injury was to one of the wheels of the truck, but it had to be towed.

Two cars also slid off the highway on the eastbound side approaching Hamilton Avenue.  There was a later report of a problem on the eastbound side between Daly Road and Hamilton.

The Ohio Department of Transportation was called out to salt the area.  They were also asked to salt Cheviot Road where it runs over Cross County, a little west of Colerain Avenue.

There was also a report of a car off I-71 near Smith Edwards.

Today's snow was expected to add up to about an inch.  Ice patches on the road are a threat, since the overnight rain washed salt off roadways that were pretreated, and the freezing point is different in different sections of roadway, depending on how much salt is left.
