Man hospitalized after driving off an overpass

ANDERSON TOWNSHIP, OH (FOX19) - A man is in University Hospital after driving his truck off an overpass Monday night.

Jerold Brookbank, 38, lost control of his truck on Interstate 275 near the Sutton Road overpass. He hit a street sign before his vehicle went airborne over a hillside, hitting several trees and utility wires. The truck landed and flipped onto its roof. Brookbank freed himself from the vehicle before being transported to the hospital.

Police say that Brookbank is in serious but stable condition.

He released a statement on Tuesday: "I first want to thank the two good Samaritans that helped me out of my truck just after I crashed. One was a pilot from Lunken who stood in the mud in his uniform to pull me out.  The other person let me sit in their car, bleeding, until emergency crews arrived. I also want to thank the doctors and medical staff at University Hospital, they've all been wonderful. I feel grateful and lucky to be alive and look forward to getting home to my wife and kids. Someone was definitely watching over me, maybe my father in law since it happened on the anniversary of his death."
