Winter shelter emergency extended

CINCINNATI (FOX19) - The Winter Shelter Emergency in Cincinnati has been extended thru the weekend. 

This means the Emergency Winter Shelter located in Over-the-Rhine Community Center on Republic Street will be open from 10P.M. to 8A.M.  Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights.

While the shelter does not accept donations they refer help to the Greater Cincinnati Coalition for the Homeless at 513-421-7803 ext. 13.  This year the Coalition is especially in need of donated blankets.

A Winter Shelter Emergency is declared when temperatures are in the single digits and/or wind chill is in the single digits for sustained periods of time, when it is determined that regular shelters are expected to be filled, and life threatening conditions could result from lack of temporary housing.

Overnight temperatures are expected to drop into the single digits with highs in the mid 20's thru the period.  Another chance of snow could develop early next week.  You can check latest Stormtracker forecast at
