Little Miami will try for 8th levy

MORROW, OH (FOX19) - After seven failed levies in just two years, the troubled Little Miami School district will go back on the ballot in May, but despite the outcome, deeper cuts are still unavoidable.

"A few less teacher or a few less staff members, fewer bus drivers, there may be fewer supplies, they may be asked to pay a little bit more for supplies," said Roger Hardin of the Ohio Department of Education.

The state appointed commission told us the cuts  were coming back in July, and they're making good on that promise.

At Thursday night's state commission meet for the Little Miami School District , what many parents feared became finalized.

The $1.2 million in cuts presented by Superintendent Dan Bennett bring the district to state minimums -- including reducing the number of graduation credits from 24 to 20, closing Hamilton Maineville Elementary, and moving those students to Salem Township Elementary.

The district will also ask voters to fund a 13.95 mill emergency operating  levy in May, and those cuts could be just the tip of the iceberg -- additional cuts to transportation and athletics could also be coming.

The school board has scheduled and all district meeting for January to discuss the option of dissolving the entire district.
