Kentucky Gov. orders flags at half-staff to remember fallen soldier

FRANKFORT, Kentucky (FOX19) - Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear has ordered that all flags at state office buildings be lowered to half-staff on Saturday, December 18, from sunrise to sunset.

According to the Department of Defense, Sergeant Willie A. McLawhorn Jr., 23, of Conway, NC died December 12 in Kandahar province, Afghanistan, of injuries suffered insurgents attacked his unit with an explosive device.

He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, KY.

Funeral services for Sergeant McLawhorn will be held on December 18 at 11 a.m. at Conway Baptist Church in Conway, NC. He will be buried immediately following the services.

Gov. Beshear encourages individuals, businesses, organizations and government agencies to join in this tribute.
