Kenton County passes amended smoking ban

INDEPENDENCE, KY (FOX19) - Kenton County passed an amended smoking ban on Tuesday.

The smoking ban passed by the Kenton County Fiscal Court on Tuesday still allows for smoking to take place in bars and adult establishments -- essentially a bar where customers are at least 18 years old and workers are at least 18 years old.

Other establishments will not be allowed to have smoking indoors. Restaurants that have bars in them will be allowed to have smoking only if the bar is in a separate location with a separate ventilation system.

Dozens of residents, business owners, and advocates came out Tuesday night to speak for and against the ban, and just minutes before the amended ban was approved, commissioners seemed torn between their two options.

The amended ban will take effect April 15th.

The vote was passed by a vote of 3-1.
