Homeless shelters forced to turn people away

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - The Greater Cincinnati Coalition for the Homeless is calling on the entire community for help. The group says there is not enough shelter space for all the homeless people in the area.

The city has 200 shelter beds for people, the same as last year.

But, homeless advocates say families are being turned away because so many more people are struggling in this economy.

The coalition made the plea for help at the corner of Central Avenue and Third Street downtown, a place where homeless people have been known to sleep at night.

"This is going to take all of Cincinnati, neighbors, builders, business, politicians. It is affecting everyone. We have to keep our families intact," said Josh Spring, executive director for Greater Cincinnati Coalition for the Homeless.
