Honey-Vanilla Sugar Scrub

 Ingredients:

2c      course sugar (turbinado or sugar in the raw)

1/2c   extra-virgin olive oil

1/4c   honey (raw and local if available)

1ea    vanilla bean, split and scraped

(or 1 tsp vanilla extract)

 Special Equipment:

decorative glass jars for decanting (about 70ml in size)

ribbon, yarn and fabric remnants for topping

small scoops for dispensing

Method: In a medium bowl, combine all of the ingredients thoroughly. Carefully spoon the scrub into the decorative jars or vessels of your choosing. Cover the lid of each jar with a 4 inch square of festive fabric and tie a bow with your favorite ribbon or yarn.

Directions for use: Moisten skin with water and rub 1-2 tablespoons of the sugar scrub all over your body or wherever you may need it most, rinse away with warm water.

Chef's Notes: This is one of my  very favorite homemade gifts to give! The course sugar scrubs off dry skin while the honey and olive oil hydrate. Best of all it's completely natural and  endlessly customizable. Grind up  1 tsp cocoa nibs in a coffee mill and add the the scrub for a choco-holic, perhaps a drop or two of peppermint essential oil to perk you up in the morning, or a bit of crushed dried lavender blossoms to calm you right before bedtime.

Since this scrub contains olive oil, please be careful when using in the shower as it can be quite slippery. It's always a good idea to test skincare products that are new to you on a small area before using all over.
