Prosecutors oppose tax money being spent on Widmer defense

by FOX19 Staff

LEBANON, OH (FOX19) - The Warren County Prosecutor's Office has filed their paperwork to oppose a request by Ryan Widmer's defense team to help with funds to pay for experts.

The prosecution listed several reasons they opposed the motion by the defense team to pay nearly $50,000 for expert testimony in his third trial.  The money would come from taxpayers.

In paperwork, the prosecutors said that Widmer has failed to prove indigency, relevance, or file the paperwork in a timely manor.

Ryan Widmer is accused of killing his wife, Sarah, by drowning her in a bathtub in their family home.  This is his third trial on these charges.  The first conviction was overturned due to juror misconduct.  A mistrial was declared in the second when the jury could not reach a decision.
