Anonymous Santa finds, returns Christmas money

COVINGTON (FOX19) - A Covington family is thanking a secret Santa for the return of $200 in Christmas money.

Stephanie Humphrey, who has little money to spare, was out shopping for gifts just before Christmas with money her father had given her for that purpose, when she lost the cash somewhere in her travels.

She had dropped it in the parking lot of the McDonald's on Kentucky 17 near 275, but had no idea that was where it had happened. It was wrapped up with a receipt from the Fort Wright Wal-Mart that had a food stamp number on it.

The Good Samaritan who found it took it to the Erlanger Police, but didn't want any credit for returning it and asked to remain anonymous.  He left the money and took off.  The police used the number on the receipt to track down Humphrey's identity, then got in contact with Covington Police, who found Humphrey and gave her the money after Christmas.

Fortunately the children didn't miss out on the gifts, since their father pitched in for them, but the found money will buy the kids some new clothes.

Humphrey hopes the person who found the money will find out how grateful she is.

"I would thank them so much. It's amazing because that's not something that you see everyday," she said.
