Waitress returns envelope with $1200

COLERAIN TOWNSHIP, OH (FOX19) - A local man is forever thankful to a waitress after he lost an envelope with $1200.

On Saturday, Dec. 18, Fred Smith went to dinner with his daughter at Walt's Barbeque on Colerain Avenue.

He paid the bill with cash from an envelope containing $1200, then accidentally left the envelope on the table.

He almost gave up, but then called Walt's and learned the waitress had held the money for him. He picked it up on Tuesday when she was working so she could identify him.

"It's nice to know that there's still honest people in this world, that was great to do that, I wish that I was millionaire, I'd give her a million bucks," said Smith

Smith says he will use the money to pay off his credit card bill, which he used to make up for the formerly lost cash.

"He kept telling me thank you and that I was his guardian angel, and his daughter said that to me too," said the waitress, Tricia Ayers.

Smith treated Ayers to dinner.
